STOP PRESS: Stanney Sports Village Pool-Council!
We are all most concerned that CWaC are planning the proposed new Sports Village at Stanney with what many consider to be totally inadequate provision for swimming and in particular swimming competition. This applies not only to the residents of Ellesmere Port, but for the whole council district.
There is no pool in Chester or surrounding areas suitable for serious competition, when the Ellesmere Port Indoor Centre (EPIC) is demolished – the facilities will not exist for any club to run swimming competitions or allow spectators to view the progress of their swimmers.
We firmly believe that a 50 metre pool with the appropriate spectator provision would be the best option and would make the proposed Sports Village one of the finest sports venues in the north of England. We have the support of the City of Chester Swimming Club and the Chester Triathletes, while the North Wales clubs have also indicated they would welcome the opportunity of long course swim training.
We are asking all members, parents, friends and anyone else to visit the exhibitions and make clear our feelings on the CWaC proposals and complete the CWaC Public Consultation Questionnaire there or online.
Please make it clear that a 25 metre pool with little spectator provision is inadequate and will have a serious impact on the swimming in Ellesmere Port, Chester and the surrounding areas. CWaC have a real opportunity to build on the ‘Olympic Legacy’ of the summer by providing a top class arena for the local athletes of tomorrow and an opportunity to make the proposed Sports Village one of the finest sports venues in the north of England.
Thanks for your support.
The consultation will close on Friday 30th November 2012.
